Our Principles
All the good works we do are informed by our four core principles:

Charity - Our Catholic faith teaches us to “Love thy neighbor as thyself.” Members of the Knights of Columbus show love for their neighbors by conducting food drives and donating the food to local soup kitchens and food pantries, by volunteering at Special Olympics, and by supporting, both spiritually and materially, mothers who choose life for their babies. Knights recognize that our mission, and our faith in God, compels us to action. There is no better way to experience love and compassion than by helping those in need, a call we answer every day.

UnityNone of us is as good as all of us. Members of the Knights of Columbus all know that – together – we can accomplish far more than any of us could individually. So we stick together…we support one another. That doesn’t mean that we always agree or that there is never a difference of opinion. It does mean that – as a Knight of Columbus – you can count on the support and encouragement of your brother Knights as you work to make life better in your parish and community.

FraternityThe Venerable Michael J. McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus, in large part, to provide assistance to the widows and children left behind when the family breadwinner died – often prematurely. The Order’s top-rated insurance program continues to do this today, as do individual Knights, who last year gave more than 10 million hours of their time to assist sick and/or disabled members and their families. In the Knights of Columbus, we watch out for and take care of one another.

PatriotismMembers of the Knights of Columbus, be they Americans, Canadians, Mexicans, Cubans, Filipinos, Poles, or Dominicans, are patriotic citizens. We are proud of our devotion to God and country, and believe in standing up for both. Whether it’s in public or private, the Knights remind the world that Catholics support their nations and are amongst the greatest citizens.

  • There is Only One Word for What is Happening: Genocide
A major report submitted to Secretary of State John Kerry making the case that genocide is being waged against Christians in the Middle East was released today by the Knights of Columbus and In Defense of Christians at a news conference at the National Press Club.
  • Knights of Columbus Named a 2016 World’s Most Ethical Company
The Knights of Columbus has been recognized as a 2016 World’s Most Ethical Company® by the Ethisphere® Institute, a global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices.
  • K of C Applauds House Foreign Affairs Committee for Unanimous Action on Genocide
The Knights of Columbus has welcomed the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s unanimous passage of a resolution that would express Congress's judgment that the Islamic State's targeting of Christians, Yazidis, Turkmen, Kurds and other ethnic minorities constitutes "genocide."
  • Consecration and Renewal
Councils can strengthen Catholic family life through our prayer program and consecration to the Holy Family
  • Touch Down for Special Olympics Athletes
A mini football “combine” was held over the weekend in Indianapolis for Special Olympics athletes to experience a series of drills and activities similar to those performed by athletes simultaneously participating in the NFL Scouting Combine.
  • Knights Know Mercy
During Lent, Knights are encouraged to share what their councils are doing in response to Pope Francis’ call to grow in faith by performing the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.
  • Stop the Christian Genocide
A new online petition is urging U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry not to exclude Christians from a declaration of genocide at the hands ISIS. Co-sponsored by In Defense of Christians (IDC) and the Knights of Columbus, the petition can be signed at StopTheChristianGenocide.org
  • A Symbol of Suffering, of Unity, and of Hope
Christians in the Middle East continue to face persecution and extinction simply for their belief in Jesus Christ. Their fate, however, has largely been ignored by the secular media.
  • Knights of Columbus ‘40 Bucks for Lent’ Campaign to Help Persecuted Middle Eastern Christians
The Knights of Columbus is asking those considering a Lenten sacrifice to give “40 Bucks for Lent” and use the hashtag #40BucksForLent to help Middle Eastern Christians and other religious minorities suffering religious persecution there.
  • Scoring for Charity
On the Monday prior to Super Bowl Sunday, California Knights of Columbus and representatives from the Supreme Council joined Football Hall of Famers Anthony Muñoz (Cincinnati Bengals) and Dave Casper (Oakland Raiders), Raiders Head Coach Jack Del Rio and his wife Linda, and several current NFL players and coaches to distribute coats to the students at an inner-city Catholic grammar school in San Francisco.

Squires Circle 4089 in conjunction with its sponsoring council, Council 6878 will host the 2017 Texas State Columbian Squires Annual Convention on June 23-25 at St. Mary Magdalene in Humble, TX.  See Resources link, then forms, and Squires Forms for information on registration, hotel, agenda, convention booklet ad form, rules, permission forms, essay contests, counselor of the year nominationn form, and chief squire circle report.

All councils should consider placing an ad in the convention book and those councils which sponsor circles, might consider helping the squires defray the cost of attending the convention.  We should be supportive of these young men so that they will choose becoming a knight when they turn 18 years old.
